The problem with popular media, is when something so consumed with low culture starts to take it self seriously. British media such as news print and Tv (not including user generated content) are consumed with low culture and when they try to flip over to serious content the transition fails and becomes a double negative resorting back to its soft media output.
He gives the example;
There is a chocolate-flavoured laxative available on the shelves of US stores which is publicised with the paradoxical injunction: Do you have constipation? Eat more of this chocolate! – i.e. eat more of something that itself causes constipation
