I explained to him that I was wanting to make up images using QR codes, so a image could be interactive and speak. As you can see from the above image we both had the same idea but executed it in different ways.

DIY printing system using felt pen on blotting paper.
This machine functions in a similar way to a CNC machine, with an incorporated program to print any image using a time-based algorithm. According to the grey value of a pixel on an image, the felt pen remains in contact with the blotting paper for relative periods of time. Consequently the ink will bleed through the paper creating a variety of different sized stains, gradually building the image.
It can takes around 34 hours to print one colour image. The slow printing process and the imperfections we obtain every time is what makes every print unique.

British media such as news print and Tv (not including user generated content) are consumed with low culture and when they try to flip over to serious content the transition fails and becomes a double negative resorting back to its soft media output.

So far as I am aware of there have only been two artist from the UK taking part in this online residency. And funny enough the other artist also is in London and has also studied at Camberwell.
Elli Chortara; Is a freelance illustrator, she obtained a MA in illustration in 2008 at Camberwell and her work is mainly for Books/Magazines/Sleeves.
Last week I made contact with Elli to suggest that week show our work on this side of the pond. We met at the Royal Festival Hall and I explained what my intentions for the show. I informed her of the galleries and spaces I have considered and already approached. Elli is already exhibiting in Stoke Newington and was very positive about the idea of showing the work. We talked about the gallery I have approached is quiet grand, but is in prime location. If we were to exhibit in this space we should definitely inform all the other artist from the residency and invite them to contribute to the show.
I am meeting with Elli for the next meeting at a gallery near Old Street where Elli has exhibited before.
My only concern that the space i found is free and the space Elli has found, charges and I will only have funds to present the work professionally.

The Travellers Box

When I was thinking about presenting my Travellers Box I wanted there to be a initial communication between myself and the viewer. Because for me this text was what inspired me to do this piece of work and thus they will see the mechanisms of my mind. I enjoy the fact that with any piece of work I make there is a print that will come before or later than the primary work to support the piece but maybe also certify it and give me and the audience something tangible. I hate the way my work sits on my computer hidden in the volts. So by creating this secondary element the work keeps moving and is in circulation.

Above you can see the original and my copy then below you can see the photo etched copper plate sitting in the sodium bath to remove the light sensitive coating.

So after returning from Madrid I received a email call from a artist in North London telling me she was sending the 'Travellers Box' to my address for my contribution to the online residency. The exchange was quite dis-con-jointed and the actual communication between myself and the curators of the project have been minimal this was something I guessed would change in the weeks to come, nothing to concern myself with. The package arrive as seen below and actually I found the object quite uninspiring and actually was not really interested in this project any longer.
My initial thought was create a project with the found address on the inside of the packaging. Now I knew this was not the previous artist as she actually lived in North London, this would be some kind of Sophie Calle/ 'Amalie'2001 project creating and searching for the person at this address. Almost reaching out for some contact some human relation behind this ugly structure.

After a few days of with this box the theme of travel was popping into my mind, every day when I arrived home this object was sat in my window ready to ask me the same question. What does travel mean to you? The way it was sat in the window was reminding me of segment of a quote I previously posted."When the time comes to leave, you are troubled by great desires and the sight of clouds moving off towards the sun is strangely disquieting."

As though the box wanted to be release, to return back to its travels. I on the other-hand was not interest and just wanted to focus on planting seeds, not metaphorically, literally! I just wanted to start planting. I miss being in the garden and now summer is here I am longing for a plot of my own in which to nurture the ground beneath me to reap its fruits.

I knew in a few days I would be travelling back to my parents and I would see which of my plants survived the winter and could prepare the ground for planting again.

So it was at this point I came across the victor hugo quote. I don't know if it was because I was consumed with the garden but the text inspired me to combine the two projects. "To travel is to born and die in every instant."

So I planted seeds in the Box. one instant the birth and then through the structures transit and final arrival at it next destination its final demise, that is unless the next artist decides to keep the plant. I thought what is more perfect to rebound my lack emotion connection with the previous artist than to send the next a living thing to say.

This is me and here is my baby, my devotion. Do not deny it your care and do not deny me your attention.

I spent a lot of the weekend in the gardens of Madrid hiding from the busy streets, enjoying the peace and smells from the flowers. All the time I wanted to grow my own plants and thought about how grim this would be in London. Then on my last day I found this little packet of seeds which I ripped from the publication and buried in my pocket completed unaware of what kind of sees they are. So now I have planted them. I wonder what they are.

I arrived in Madrid two days after the rest of the group from Wimbledon. The flight where expensive but they where my only option. In the morning I joined Elaine on her meeting which her spanish collaborator. We spent the morning looking for printers and caught up on what I have missed so far.

In the afternoon I made my way to the exhibition space and met up with the other wimbledon students. People seemed to be working aways cutting up paper and clearing spaces. This didn't concern me as I had done all the work pryer to leaving for spain all I would need would be power and a projector and possible sound if I felt it was appropriate. I spent my few couple of days there going to galleries and assisting the other artist with there set up. I found out that the allocated space and equipment was to be a 32inch TV in the corridor. I explained that because of the size of my image and the amount of videos within my completed image, I would need at least a projector and a wall. I was told by other members of the team that there where no more equipment and I should just except what I am given. I argued my case and looked for a more effective screening area.

So later the organisers got back to me and I took them to look at a space I found that would be perfect and I could use the pre-existing screen to project. They looked into me using the room and It was excepted but I would have to give up my screening space for 30mins so another artist/performer could use my set up in his performance. I agreed as this would only be for 30mins.

Now I had a room, a screen and projector and pa. I just need someway to housed all the technical equipment and rase the projector to a suitable level.

In the basement of the building where vaults filled with old machinery and random object from when the building was in use as a tobacco factory. I came across this rusty filing cabinet the was the perfect height to project and I could use the draws to house my laptop, pa, etc...

Here is my print on sale at the Pond Gallery in clapham. The print is actually postcard size but the paper is just smaller than A4. They are an addition of 30 and black and white.

Fukuoka, Japan-born artist Nobuhiro Nakanishi has created a mesmerizing series called Layered Drawings that we'd love to see in person. Nakanishi uses a laser print to mount his photos onto plexiglass acrylic. Though we could enjoy each slice on its own, taken together, they produce a magnificent effect.

"The theme of my work is: the physical that permeates into the art piece," he says. "In a foggy landscape, we no longer see what we are usually able to see – the distance to the traffic light, the silhouette of the trees, the slope of the ground. Silhouettes, distance and horizontal sense all become vague. When we perceive this vagueness, the water inside the retina and skin dissolve outwardly toward the infinite space of the body surface. The landscape continues to flow, withholding us from grasping anything solid. By capturing spatial change and the infinite flow of time, I strive to produce art that creates movement between the artwork itself and the viewer's experience of the artwork."

This psychology test comprises of an imagined walking tour through several themes, in which you are judge by your negotiation of these themes, each one relating to a social component of your being; a forest(perspective on Life), a path in the forest(your growing up and maturity to adult hood), a cup(your childhood), a house(your idea the home), water(your sex life), a bear(your problems), and finally a wall crossing your path(death).

When sitting down to visualize these subjects myself, I found that I was not drawing upon first hand experiences but that of the second hand (manufactured) such as movies, adverts and computer games. It makes me think on reflection about just how much of our recollected life is fantasy and how we are so susceptible to the engulfment of modern media, sculpting our perceptions through image bombardment.
